Plumbers know how to clean and maintain all the plumbing in a house. Sewer lines are long, and all the water and waste we flush goes down them. If your drains start making strange noises, or if they start smelling bad, it is time to clean them out.
All drainage lines run to the sewer system of your house. Every drain, whether it is in a sink, shower, or the toilet, joins the sewer lines running out of your house.
These are called lateral lines, and they run to sewer mains or a main line. If your sewer needs cleaning, you will know it. Strange noises, smells, and slow flushing drains are all symptoms that your sewer line needs help. Not every situation calls for a plumber, however, and there are things you can do to take care of a lot of problems. One way you can achieve this is by purchasing an enzyme cleaner.
Enzyme cleaners come in a great variety of types. Some remove pet stains, but others are useful for cleaning out drainage lines. Any plumbing supply outlet and most hardware stores will have high-grade cleaners for this purpose. The best choice for this is a basement drain, but any large drain will work. Enzyme cleaners work via a biological reaction, so time is required.
Be patient and wait for the cleaner to do its work. Snakes are cheap, and using them is not difficult. Minor clogs that occur inside your house can be removed with little effort using a snake. A PTI is needed when a person wishes to construct any wastewater collection, storage or treatment system or wishes to modify any existing wastewater collection, storage or treatment system.

Currently, there are no PTI related policies. In most cases, it's best to make the trench as narrow as possible to minimize soil disturbance , but this requires precise knowledge of where the pipe will terminate. Sometimes a wider trench is necessary. The bottom of the trench must be smooth and compacted and must follow the desired slope. Often, a bedding material, typically sand, is laid in the trench to provide continuous support for the pipe. Sand is also much easier to slope than soil, allowing for fine-tuning of the slope before the pipe is installed.
Sewer pipe is installed one section at a time, typically starting at the lower end of the pipe run and working up to the higher elevation. Modern sewer pipe is made of PVC and is joined either with gasketed fittings or with solvent glue. Standard pipe size for residential lines is 4 inches. The local code specifies the required pipe material and size.
The bell female end of each pipe section should face uphill to minimize the changes of leaks at the pipe joints. The pipe connects to the city main per the city's specifications. At the house end, most codes require one or two cleanouts to provide easy access to the pipe for scoping or for cleaning with a sewer auger. After the sewer lateral is completely installed and passes final inspection, the trench is backfilled to complete the project.
The backfilling process often begins with a layer of sand to protect the pipe and eliminate any voids around the pipe. Then, the trench is filled with soil added in layers. Each layer of soil is carefully compacted to prevent settling in the future. The lubricant used must not make the gasket roll away and damage the ends of the pipes. To ensure a good seal with the joint gasket, the spigot or tongue of the concrete pipe must be cleaned and lubricated. Generally, the installation of concrete pipes requires a minimum of two workers.
The large pipe is placed in the trench at first. This can be performed by means of a crane or backhoe, while workers assist in the proper placing of pipes in the trench. The spigot end of the pipe is inserted into the bell of the pipe already installed. Then the new section is installed on the pipe using a crowbar or pipe pullers.
Once the new section is properly seated, the workers must ensure the alignment of the pipe using surveying or leveling instruments. Backfilling is the final process of RCP installation. The backfill material is initially placed on either side of the pipe.
The material must not be bulldozed or dropped directly into the trench. The backfill material must not include boulders that can damage the pipe during compaction. The backfill must be free from roots or any organic matter. After backfilling and compacting, the trench is filled to the required grade as per the project specifications. Ensure that the pipe is deep below the ground before driving any heavy construction equipment over it.
The basic steps involved in the installation of reinforced concrete pipe include: 1. Handling the reinforced concrete pipe 2. Excavation of trenches to lay concrete pipe 3.
