I just went back and look at your first long post. I overlooked something. Your wireless router can be a contributing factor. I usually recommend using these Recommended Wireless Router Settings.
I have a Dell Wireless Printer Adapter which acts like the wireless card in your printer. I have my router set for mixed mode because of the print server. I also use channel Your wireless N router uses the 5.
Remember, if you change anything in the wireless router, the printer will need to be setup, again, then reinstalled in the computers. The below link has instructions on how to do this.
I think it was, "Ready for print" or something like that And the printer will print from the Dell installation screen. Once it was finished, it asks if you want to print a test page.
I clicked yes, and it printed fine. Once I closed that, though, we go back to "Communication not available. I had the printer uninstalled for about 14 hours. It should be noted that the Wireless Card didn't disconnect during that period, where before it would disconnect every 10 to 20 minutes. Read page 9 in the V manual. It tells you how to get to the scan mode. The copy mode is like if you want to make a copy of a document, like putting it under the glass. I can't see where it would matter as it would be working independently and being used like a photo copy machine.
I can get to scan mode and all that jazz pretty easy. Before, when the printer was connected to the PC, and the PC was on, it would display something else on the screen. It no longer does that. I was just adding that as a sidenote. Glad you figured it out. Thanks for your feedback. When I click on the printer icon the window shows that the printer is offline and under status it says error-printing.
I cannot get it to be online. I have tried the Microsoft Fix-it. It said there was no problem. I checked that the printer is plugged in properly. The wifi is working, the router is working. I tried to unplug the printer and plug back in. I've tried to refresh the document. I uninstalled and reinstalled this printer several times. It was working until I got the window that said printer communication had stopped. Log back on, and when everything has booted, plug the USB cable back into the PC and turn the printer on.
Windows 7 Update will attempt to download all appropriate drivers. Click "Windows Update". The screen may indicate that "Windows is up to date" but ignore this. Click "Check for updates" on the left of the window. Now it seems Windows 7 will mysteriously somehow locate and install the two V updates which previously failed. Installing something as simple as a printer shouldn't cause this kind of headache. I hope this helps some other poor soul avoid the wasted hours I've spent.
It may also save a few Vs from being thrown out the window which I seriously considered. I am definitely going to give this a try! This is the first thread I found that actually addressed the exact problem that I was having.
I really hope this works for me too or there will be one freshly pulverized V in my dumpster tonight. Now I can use my printer for tasks such as Just upgraded to Windows 7 and my v has stopped working too. Says something about left cartridge needs replacing despite everything working ok before I upgraded. Instead of enjoying Windows 7 I too have spent an hour trying to sort this mess out.
Too tired to try to sort it out now, but will certainly try tomorrow. Similar thing happened to me when I bought my current computer with vista on it and ended up having to buy a new printer despite the fact the old one was in perfect nick. Really annoying me this now and of the solution above does not work, Dell will have lost another customer for good. It should be this hard work. I managed to figure out a solution to the problem I was having with the no communication available message.
It turns out that the driver Dell is using for Windows 7 is the same in Vista. This normally wouldn't be a problem, except that Windows 7 changed its security software up a bit, and requires an administrator to make changes to anything on the computer. I was sick of not being able to print, and then thought of something. I ran both the install file for the driver in as an administrator, AND the program I wished to print from as an administrator.

I have tried everything but to no avail. My updates are current and there is no virus or malware, etc.
I have uninstalled and installed the printer software but nothing has helped. I just need some assistance with firewall settings. My computer is fine. I have tried turning the firewall off also and that did not work.
